The only "apocalyptic" books or "zombie" books I have really read have been on Wattpad which were never in the point of view of the zombie, so to speak. Now, I have watched movies in the POV of the zombie which is called, "Warm Bodies" and it's such a heartfelt movie. However, J.Q Davis' book, "Turning Grace" took the zombie plot but twisted it to make a wonderful series.

This is a synopsis off from Goodreads:

"Grace is an average teenage girl with an average teenage life—quirky best friend, good grades, a crush on the popular jock at school—who has recently noticed some not-so-average changes. She wakes up in the morning with bags under her eyes, lifeless hair, and a hunger like she’s never had before.

Her mother—former doctor and current personal chef to Gracie—insists that these changes are hormonal. But Grace is growing skeptical of her mom’s knowledge on the matter, especially after Grace willingly dines on Fluffy, the very delicious four-legged neighborhood feline.

When her mom introduces Grace to Dr. Walker, he promises to help her curb her sudden craving for living things…in another country. Grace can’t leave her life behind, not when her long-time crush, Tristen, is finally showing some interest. But when a couple of serious crimes are committed—assault and murder—Grace must decide whether or not to run away. It may be the only way to protect the people she cares about…from herself."

Very intriguing. When I read the line where it says, "especially after Grace willingly dines on Fluffy, the very delicious four-legged neighborhood feline." it was enough to make my stomach turn but my mind swirl with curiosity. It was quit obvious she was something like a zombie but not your typical TV show zombie. She was an average girl with an average life- or so she thought.

The beginning was super slow but I'm glad it was this way because it built up the suspense for the ending and the other two books in her series which I need to get my hands on ASAP! The main character, Grace was your typical, everyday teenager. A best friend and a crush on a jock who she thought would never give her a second chance, she often had thoughts all of us teenage girls have felt sometime in our lives. It's nice when you are able to connect with a character. Personally, I love when this happens because it makes the read smooth and effortless.

Every day when Grace woke up with that pain of hunger stabbing her stomach fifty times worse than the normal human and looking like she just rose from her grave buried fifty years ago, it made me cringe. Especially when she began picking at a piece of skin from her lip and it just wouldn't break or stop tearing to the point where it got down to her chin! Although I was cringing, I couldn't stop reading! Other than that, when Tristen, her crush, came over after school to study with Grace, she had offered him a cup of her mother's freshly made "pomegranate juice". Well, her mother knocked it out of her hand before she could give it to Tristen. Later on, we find out what it really is and it makes your stomach turn!

Halloween night was eventful as I expected it to be but it was more than what I believed was going to happen! Honestly, I thought that Tristen and his ex girlfriend, Sonny, would make a fool of Grace and embarrass her but much to my surprise, that did not happen. A part of me was glad because that would be such an asshole move on their end. It seemed like the ending came too fast but that is to be expected in a series yet I loved everything about it.

When the truth finally came out on why Grace's mother wouldn't allow her to be in the kitchen while she cooked was surprising. I honestly didn't think anything of it apart from when Tristen said the beef jerky Grace's mom made didn't taste like regular jerky, my mind was like, "Hmmm, interesting!" Yet, I was still surprised when the truth made an appearance.

Like I mentioned many times, I loved this book and that is why I rated it five stars on Goodreads as well as Amazon!
