Thank you so much, first of all, to Quinn Avery for gifting me a copy of her book, 'The Dead Girl's Stilettos' in exchange for an honest review. It took me awhile to get to this book and I wish I would have read it sooner because it was absolutely amazing and I enjoyed every single page in this book. Below will be the synopsis from Goodreads:
Synopsis:
"A playground for the rich and famous, a murdered Jane Doe, and a beloved celebrity. Journalist Bexley Squires might be out of her league when she’s asked to solve one of the nation’s most infamous unsolved mysteries.
But she’s broke and desperate for the means to find her sister after her disappearance, and the world’s sexiest actor will pay generously to save his reputation. Only she didn’t expect the detective in charge of the case to be her old crush, Grayson Rivers. He’s hotter than the California sun, and their chemistry is the best thing since tacos, but she’s not going to let anything get in the way of uncovering a level of depravity unlike anything she’s ever known.
As tampering witnesses and stolen evidence come to light, Bexley’s network of old and new friends gets sucked into the undertow. If she can’t uncover the secret behind the victim’s footwear, the next wave will kill them all."

Just the title alone makes you wonder what this book is about and how it will turn out in the end. The synopsis acts as a teaser. From the first couple of pages, I was instantly hooked. This book actually helped me get out of a reading slump! January reading has been hard for no particular reason at all but I haven't felt motivated!
We follow a woman named Bexley who has a celebrity giving her money to clear his name of a murder he says he did not commit. Half a million dollars, that is. So of course, she takes it. The reason a celebrity is asking a random woman from New York is because she recently took down someone really well-known and big for sex trafficking and other things. So of course Dean asks her to help clear his name of the nonsense.
Throughout the entire book, I was trying to piece together who could have killed that nameless, innocent woman. The only thing the lady wore when she was found washed up on the beach, was a pair of stilettos that you learn that two teens took them. Other than that, she wore nothing else to help identify her.
The way the author fit everything together throughout the story was like a puzzle! It was so relaxing watching all the questions I had become answered. Then, there was a small plot twist! When Bexley thought she figured out who murdered the woman, the real serial killer actually stepped forward when the falsely accused one was behind bars. I should have saw it coming because I suspected it was a certain person from the beginning but Quinn Avery threw me off which I loved! The tie-in with the shoes at the end was shocking but it made perfect sense.
Overall, this read was a perfect mystery with a slight love triangle and a little romance on the side. It got your brain thinking even when you weren't reading the book. I see that there are other books in the series so I am excited to get my hands on them! This was an easy five-star rating from me.
