Ever since joining the bookstagram, Alex North's thriller, 'The Whisper Man' seemed to haunting me. Now, it is nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards. I have never been the type to read thrillers or anything scary but now that has changed since reading this wonderful book.

Synopsis: "In this dark, suspenseful thriller, Alex North weaves a multi-generational tale of a father and son caught in the crosshairs of an investigation to catch a serial killer preying on a small town.
After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy believes a fresh start will help him and his young son Jake heal. A new beginning, a new house, a new town. Featherbank.
But the town has a dark past. Twenty years ago, a serial killer abducted and murdered five residents. Until Frank Carter was finally caught, he was nicknamed "The Whisper Man," for he would lure his victims out by whispering at their windows at night.
Just as Tom and Jake settle into their new home, a young boy vanishes. His disappearance bears an unnerving resemblance to Frank Carter's crimes, reigniting old rumors that he preyed with an accomplice. Now, detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis must find the boy before it is too late, even if that means Pete has to revisit his great foe in prison: The Whisper Man.
And then Jake begins acting strangely. He hears a whispering at his window..."
As you could guess, this book holds a lot of mysterious questions which everyone, including the reader tries figuring out. It'll have chills running down your spine and sitting on the edge of your seat in suspense. Let me tell you: I would read this book before going to bed and have my Christmas lights on. It was almost like watching a scary movie and I wanted someone to be in the room with me. I had to get up and do something so I tossed the covers off from me and left the room and when I came back, I stopped dead in my tracks because my blanket was propped up as if someone was holding it. Oh my, I was so nervous and it was because of this book and I love how a book can have that effect on me.
Considering this is Alex North's debut novel is extremely impressive. When I read it, I honestly did not believe this was a debut novel. It was written so beautifully. To say the least, I am excited for whenever North releases a new book because I will have to get my hands on it as soon as possible!
I especially loved the father-son relationship between Tom and Jake. They were two completely different people who were exactly alike: unsure. They took everything with precaution. They never really clicked when Tom's wife was alive and then she passed away and they lived with the consequences of not being bonded together. It was lovely to see their relationship from both their perspectives. Towards the end, they begin to warm up to each other a little more. It was a heartwarming experience to read about.
I haven't read a book where it switches from different points of views like 3rd and 1st person. Tom was in first person and everyone else- Pete, Jake, Rebecca and the Whisper Man impersonator. It was nice to switch it up often- a breath of fresh air you could say.
Everything about this book was wonderful and creepy and mysterious. I'll definitely want to pick it up again sometime soon since I enjoyed the characters so much.
