Thank you so much to Peggy Lampman, author of 'The Ruby of the Sea' for the gifted copy of this wonderful book set to release February 2020. I'm glad I finally got around to reading it before it gets published!

Goodreads synopsis:

"After aimlessly traveling the country for fifteen years, Linnea Chandler returns to her hometown of Key West, Florida keeping the genesis of a life-altering phobia to herself—not a good idea, as she comes to find out. The 19th Century lighthouse that she, her parents and two sisters call home also has a troubled past, carrying the frightening myth that eerily mirrors the mystery of her younger sister today. Should Linnea run while she can?

The women must decide to what extremes they are willing to go to protect their secrets. Ignore the brutality behind the retrieval of spoils from a fatal shipwreck in 1857? Defy a 2017 hurricane threatening to pummel their town? And when their world is upended, do the women have the strength to move forward?"

I knew this read was going to be slightly different from ones I have read before. Nonthless, I enjoyed it. The beginning was too slow for me, though. Almost one-hundred pages in and I felt as if the author was dragging out the book. The descriptions, however, of Key West, Florida and everything in between was pure beauty. I've never been to Florida but this allowed my imagination to create it's own version until I see it in person one day.

Lampman also describes the food so wonderfully to how it sounds when you bite into it to the powerful tastes of the food. It was truly blissful to read and sometimes made me hungry!

The relationship between the sisters was real and raw. I loved learning about the aftermath of pregnancy with one of the sisters and learning about mental illness a little more. I personally have severe anxiety, PTSD and depression. This paints the picture: you may think you know someone but you truly don't understand what they're going through up in the head. It's scary to think about but the author did a wonderful job about covering true and real topics in this read.

Make sure to pick up a copy of 'The Ruby of the Sea' February 5th, 2020 to experience this wonderful story!
