I have read a lot of books in my life, not many including poetry books yet Abbey Michelle's third collection of poems titled, 'Roots' threw me into complete awe.

I have been friends with Abbey for some time now by meeting through a Facebook group centering on poetry. She actually is the one who designed my cover for my book, 'Mountains'! Her first book, 'Elemental Distress' portrayed beauty and lots of emotions. The cover was simple and she had little doodles and pictures which I loved. And yet, she didn't have any doodles in this poetry book. For some reason though, I don't think it needed it. It was perfect as is.

Abbey moved from California to South Mississippi and this book talks about the journey of change- things she has learned and what she wishes she would have known long ago. The imagery is outstanding- her word play and use of words adds to it fantastically. I'm not sure if I have ever read something so beautiful in my life before.

One thing I loved her doing was she added hand-written poems within this book which gave it more of a personal touch to it. Every now and then, if she was trying to emphasize something within the poem, instead of using italics- a normal way to express something -she hand-wrote that word or sentence. It gave it a nice touch. I felt as if I was reading her personal diary- reading her life away.

This poetry book was almost 300 pages long and I happened to finish it in a whole day- trying my best to focus on just that is hard as a stay-at-home wife but I somehow managed it. And I'm glad I did. On Amazon, I ended up rating 'Roots' a 5/5 stars.
