In honor of National Poetry day, I decided to sit down and do some poetry book reviews on some books I've read this week!

Andrew Myle's poetry book, 'Phases' practically covers everything in Myle's life from finding who he is within, struggles with self image and worth, politics, environment- everything you can imagine! It is a roller coaster over-looking his life and the society we live in today.

Throughout the book, which wasn't long whatsoever, overall it was an easy, smooth read. Myle's has an incredible vocabulary and I actually had to look some words up because I wasn't sure what they meant! Something I haven't really seen in modern poetry is a poem being placed on one page in two columns. Usually, it is one and if it's long, it takes up pages. It was weird yet unique. What I like to say: different yet effective!

One of the things I didn't like, personally, was the font. This poetry collection is about finding who he is and it has a serious tone all throughout the book. The font was too childish- didn't match the mood at all. It's just a personal thought.

I found two poems that I truly loved: 'Synapses' and 'Sun and Bones'. For the first poem, I believed it was perfectly written. The thing I loved was how it actually talked about a scientific process with the big terms but it was beautiful. As for 'Sun and Bones', the imagery is what captured my attention. Throughout reading this poem, I felt as if I could feel exactly what he was describing which was the sun warming up my skin to my bones. It's nice when you connect with a poem; it gives you a wonderful reading experience.

Overall, I enjoyed how smooth all the words ran together and flowed throughout the book. It made for an easy read despite some of the big vocabulary words not everyone might not know- like myself. On Amazon, I ended up rating Andrew Myle's poetry book, 'Phases' a 4/5 stars.
